Horsham, PA. November 15, 2007: Relevante Inc., hosted its third annual seminar, titled 2007 Internal Audit Symposium. The fall symposium was held on November 8th and 9th at its Horsham, PA headquarters. The first day of the symposium consisted of a six-part seminar providing six free CPE credits, a step-up from the three credits offered in 2006.
Brandon Weinstock, CPA and Director of Project Consulting for Relevante, started the symposium with two, fifty-minute presentations: Auditing Backdrop: Standards & Environment, and Pulse of Large Enterprise Audit, an updated presentation of results obtained from his ongoing survey of internal audit executives from mid to large size companies. For more information about the internal audit survey, contact Brandon at bweinstock@relevante.com. Five parts of the six-part program offered topics primarily in the audit area while Allen Sullivan, CPA and Sr. Consultant for Relevante, provided a presentation on Fair Value Accounting. Chris Keane, CPA and Senior Consultant for Relevante, contributed a presentation on Corporate Fraud: Framework for Deterrence & Detection. Peter McGeough of ACL Services, Ltd. presented a talk and demonstration of ACL software as a tool for fraud detection, Advanced Analytics for Fraud Detection. Agnes Peraino, CISA and president of Senga Technology LLC, concluded the symposium with a presentation on IT Auditing: Using GAIT Methodology and Principles to Ease Section 404 Work.
Many Relevante managers and staffers were available to the attendees during the first day of the Symposium to aid in their day’s experience and provide information of interest.
The second day course - ACL501 - Understanding ACL: A Manager’s Perspective - focused on the use of ACL software for audit managers and consisted of eight CPE credits. Attendees were introduced to the software and gained the necessary background to successfully implement, manage and assess the deployment of ACL in their organizations.
The ACL instructor, Dustin Lewis, conducted a workshop that included various data analysis as applied to Accounts Payable and Purchasing areas. The presentation illustrated methods to identify inconsistencies between purchase orders and invoices, snapshots tricks to detect duplicate vendor payments and trend analysis by employee, product, or vendor. Additional benefits of having attended the ACL course included understanding how ACL data analytics software can improve the effectiveness of internal controls, enhanced bottom-line performance and point to improvements needed in business processes.
Along with continuing to provide local CPE seminars, Relevante also plans to host future courses at its Jersey City location. The new office is located at Plaza V, 25th Floor, Jersey City, NJ 07311. |
